BRATTLEBORO -- At 10 a.m. worship Sunday, Feb. 3, the Rev. Carra McFadden, pastor of Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro, will preach on "That’s Just the Way It Is" and celebrate Holy Communion. Her sermon text is Luke 4:14-30. Fellowship Hour will follow in the parlor, and all are invited.
Special Offerings for February will go to support the Overflow Shelter and Morningside Shelter. The 2013 pledge envelopes are also available in the parlor, and the Rev. Ernest Rueter’s newly published book will be on sale. They are also available in the church office during the week.
Five Centre Church youth are preparing this month to visit the sister parish at Cristo Redentor in El Salvador. They are Kathryn Fecto, Kate Maisner, Haley Marcil, Emma Rueter and Tori Svec, who will participate in a peace project, focusing on non-violent communication. Accompanied by adults, they will depart Feb. 16 and, upon arrival, be joined by several local teens from the sister parish and drive to the Peace Center at Suchitoto.
The Peace and Justice Committee will sponsor a social justice film, "In Debt We Trust," from noon to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the parlor. This will showcase the impact of debt on young people and our society, while suggesting practical efforts needed to avoid the traps of debt dependency. The program includes a potluck and group discussion.
