BRATTLEBORO -- Worship this Sunday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. will include the story of the transfiguration; scripture found in Luke 9:28-36 to be read by Leslie Kramsky. We will celebrate Shrove "Tuesday" on Sunday. To shrive someone, in old-fashioned English, is to hear his acknowledgement of his sins, to assure him of God’s forgiveness, and to give him appropriate spiritual advice. Pastor Cheryl Meachen will offer a brief meditation and parishioners are invited to bring bits of spiritual advice that have helped them over the years to share with the congregation. Shrove Tuesday is also known as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras, a day when a thrifty housewife uses up the fats that she has kept around for cooking, but that she will not be using during Lenten fast. Since pancakes are a standard way of using up fat, the day is also called Pancake Tuesday. All are welcome following Sunday worship to a free celebratory pancake breakfast, as well as to our Ash Wednesday service on Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m, marking the beginning of Lent in a penitential service, including the imposition of ashes.
Also on Sunday, our choir, directed by Jenny Hinton will sing and Dennis Deer will share a mission moment describing our Ministry of Volunteer Sextons.
We will receive our monthly Wishing Well offering for joys and celebrations in individuals’ lives to be donated to Lexy’s Fund to help with medical expenses for Lexy Giallella, a 15-year-old girl from Brookline who was diagnosed Sept.
The church is located next to Renew Salvage at 18 Town Crier Drive off Putney Road, across from the Shell Station and is handicap-accessible. Come as you are. All are welcome.
