NEWFANE -- The First Congregational Church of Newfane will celebrate the first Sunday of Lent at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17. The Rev. Robert Hamm will speak on "Remembering and Rejoicing" with scripture from Deuteronomy 26:1-11.
Congregational hymns are "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God," "The Church of Christ in Every Age" and "Come, We that Love the Lord." The choir will sing the anthem "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross." The prelude, "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" arranged by James Denton, and the postlude, "Trumpet Rondeau from Sinfonies de Fanfares" by Jean Joseph Mouret, will be played by organist/music director Martha LaMoria.
The Sunday School will be learning about the patriarchs of the Old Testament with the focus on Moses for the next few Sundays. The Sunday School morning begins with the group playing "Where in the World is Jesus" and learning the song "Jesus Loves Me." Preschoolers have coloring or activities which relate to the Sunday School children’s lesson.
Rev. Hamm and the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee invite the congregation to a conversation about ministry at 11:30 a.m. following worship. "Let’s Talk About the Church in Newfane" at coffee hour.

Deadline for the March Steeple is Tuesday, Feb. 19. Next Sunday, Feb. 24, will feature the dedication service for the new addition to the church.
