WEST BRATTLEBORO -- Feb. 17 is the First Sunday in Lent at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 880 Western Ave. in West Brattleboro. The Rev. Joseph Amico’s sermon will be "What Do We Have to Lose?" based on Paul’s letter to the Romans, 10:8b-13.
Pianist William McKim’s prelude will be "Miniature" by Flor Peeters and postlude "Dialogue" by Francois Couperin. The senior choir will sing "Jesu, Blessed Jesu" by Gordon Young. Congregational hymns will be "Rescue the Perishing" "Here, O God, Your Servants Gather" and "God Will Take Care of You." The benediction response will be "On Eagle’s Wings." Guitarist Jeff Brewer will play Gathering Music.
Sunday worship at First Congregational Church is at 10 a.m. During February and part of March, worship is in the Fireplace Room. During the worship hour, there is Sunday School for pre-school through grade 6, and child care for younger children. Following worship there is a Fellowship Hour in the Fireplace Room. There is an ongoing collection of canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and sauces, peanut butter, tuna fish, and cereals for the Drop-In Center’s Food Shelf and a just-started collection for the Church World Service’s Hygiene Kits and School Kits.
Mary’s Closet, a thrift shop featuring men’s women’s and children’s winter clothes, will be open today from 9 a.m. to noon.
Ongoing weekly events include the Prayer Fellowship at 8:30 a.m. and Senior Choir rehearsals at 9 a.m. on Sundays, and the Handicraft group on Tuesdays at 1 p.m.
