DUMMERSTON -- Worship at Dummerston Congregational Church on Sunday, March 17, at 10 a.m. will continue with the sermon series on the Seven Last Words of Jesus from the Cross. The Scripture Lessons will be Psalm 22: 14-19 and John 19: 28-30. The sermon is "I Thirst." Cathy Martin will be the guest organist. The hymns and liturgy for this St. Patrick’s Day will be from the Irish/Celtic tradition.
The children continue a Lenten series on The Parables of Jesus. This week the story is the Parable of the Seeds and Soils from Luke 15: 1-7. Children begin in worship and then go to an open classroom, where they will continue their work on the Lord’s Prayer and learning about Kenya. The children are taking an offering of redeemable bottles each week to raise funds for an AIDS orphanage in Kaiguchu, Kenya. People are also invited to bring old glasses, T-shirts, and books for a school library in Kenya.
There will be an after school program for preschoolers through grade 5 on Thursday, March 21, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Children may take the bus directly from school with a note to the teacher. The focus will be on the events of Holy Week.
Non-perishable foods, toiletries, household items, blankets, tents and tarps for the Drop-In Center may be left in the church entry.
A Contemplative Prayer Service is held in the sanctuary each Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. Dress warmly and come for a time of shared silence and deep peace.
