BRATTLEBORO -- The Rev. Carra McFadden will preach on "Facing Suffering" at 10 a.m. worship Sunday, March 17, at Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro. For the Fifth Sunday in Lent, her text is Romans 8:18-19, and her sermon will explore how enduring suffering connects people to Christ and points them to the joy to come. Fellowship Hour follows worship in the fireside parlor and all are welcome.

During Lent the Kidz Club is exploring readings from both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament, under the leadership of Michael Mario, director of Christian Education.

The special offering for March will benefit One Great Hour of Sharing, which enables the national United Church of Christ to respond quickly to disasters and other urgent needs as they arise, as well as local recovery work following Tropical Storm Irene.

A new adult book study about Islam has begun at 9 a.m. Sundays in the church library, based on John L. Esposito’s book, "What Everyone Needs to Know About Islam: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions."

Wednesday night Bible study takes place at the home of Gisela Robeck, West Brattleboro, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Easter flowers for Sunday worship may be ordered from the church office through Sunday, March 17. There are a variety of choices and prices and celebrations may be specified. Centre Church will be hosting the Overflow Shelter meal at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 24. Jill and Rob Harnish

Choir rehearsals under the direction of Christian Huebner take place at 7 p.m. most Thursdays and at 9 a.m. Sundays. Future plans include rehearsing for an upcoming performance of Franz Schubert’s Mass in G with an enlarged choir.
