NEWFANE -- The First Congregational Church of Newfane will meet at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 17, for the Fifth Sunday of Lent. The title of the Rev. Robert Hamm’s sermon is "No Ordinary Dinner Party" with scripture reading from John 12:1-8.

The choir will sing the anthem "He’s Everything to Me" accompanied by Bill Berner on guitar and Martha LaMoria on piano. Congregational hymns are "In the Cross of Christ I Glory," "What Wondrous Love Is This" and "Lift High the Cross."

Organist/music director Martha LaMoria will play the prelude "The King of Love My Shepherd Is" by Charles Gounod, arranged by Ritter, and the postlude "Fanfare" by Jean Joseph Mouret, arranged by Broughton. Palm Sunday will be celebrated next week when the choir will sing "The Palms" as the anthem.

Upcoming events for this week include Early Education Services’ playgroup from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Linus Quilters at 1 p.m. and Sew What’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; Handbell rehearsal at 5 p.m. and choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The deadline for Steeple items is Tuesday, March 19.
