DUMMERSTON -- Worship at the Dummerston Congregational Church is at 9:30 a.m. for April through December -- note the change of time.

The Dummerston Church is a Green Justice Congregation of the United Church of Christ, and is participating in the UCC 4/1 Earth Campaign: 50 Days of Environmental Education and Action.

This Sunday’s meditation will focus on John 3: 16-17, "God So Loved the Cosmos" and the work of Wangari Maathai and her emphasis on Replenishing the Earth. The Green Belt Movement, for which Wangari won the Nobel Peace Prize, has four core values; Love for the environment, Gratitude and respect for the earth’s resources, Self empowerment and self betterment (or the power to change within us), and The Spirit of service and volunteerism (or the ability to behave selflessly for the common good).

The guest organist is Cathy Martin. This is a Communion Sunday, and the special offering will be for the Deacons’ Fund to help Dummerston neighbors with emergency needs.

The children’s story is the resurrection story as recounted in John 20: 19-29, the story of Thomas, "What does it mean if Jesus is Lord and God?" The children will continue their mission work focused on the AIDS orphanage in Kaiguchu, Kenya. This month, the children will begin a Friendship Book for the orphanage to introduce themselves to the children and to depict seasons in Vermont.

Each Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. a small group gathers in the sanctuary for Contemplative Prayer and the deep peace of shared silence.

The youth group meets Thursday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. for pizza, planning and games. All youth in grades 7 to 12 are welcome.

Friday, April 12, is a cookout and Games Night. The church will provide hot dogs and hamburgers and the fixings. Bring a salad or dessert to share and enjoy your neighbors over a favorite game or puzzle.

Saturday, April 13, there will be a Service of Blessing of the Animals at 1:30 p.m. in the lower yard. All are invited to bring pets, on a leash or in a cage, for a brief service of thanksgiving for all creation and individual hands-on blessing. The rain date will be April 20.

Sunday evening, April 14, there will be a movie night showing the acclaimed documentary film, "Taking Root; The Vision of Wangari Maathai."

The church is located in Dummerston Center, 1535 Middle Road. For more information about this energetic, faithful, friendly and mission-oriented church, contact Pastor Susanna Griefen, 802-257-0544, susanna@griefen.com.
