BRATTLEBORO -- Brattleboro area Baha’is will gather on Sunday, April 21, at 4 p.m. at the Baha’i Center, 148 Elliot St. to celebrate the First Day of Ridvan and to elect the members of the Spiritual Assembly, the local governing body of the Brattleboro Baha’i Community.

Ridvan (pronounced Rizwan) marks the time when Baha’u’llah, Prophet-Founder of the Baha’i Faith, announced His Mission. He had been exiled to the city of Baghdad from his native home in Teheran, Persia, along with other followers of The Bab, Prophet-Herald of the Baha’i Faith.

On the eve of a further exile ordered by the Persian government, Baha’u’llah, was allowed a brief sojourn to an island garden known as the Garden of Ridvan. Here, surrounded by His family and fellow Babis, He made known His Station. Baha’is celebrate the first, ninth and 12th days of this time in 1863 when the Baha’i Faith was born.
