DUMMERSTON -- Worship at the Dummerston Congregational Church begins at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 5. This Communion Sunday, the Rev. Sandra Gourdet will preach.
Rev. Gourdet is the Area Executive for the Africa Office of Global Ministries, representing both the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ to more than 40 partner churches, councils, and organizations in 14 African countries. She has worked as an English teacher in Zaire, and has served in administration and teaching with the UCC in Zimbabwe, where she was also appointed to the Zimbabwe Synod of the UCC of Southern Africa, as a consultant in education and women’s development programs.
The scripture for the day is Mark 4:26-34 and the meditation is "Growth Beyond Our Wildest Imagination." The children’s story is "They Knew Him in the Breaking of the Bread," based on Luke 28. Children begin in worship and then go to an open classroom.
Each Wednesday, there is a Contemplative Prayer Service in the sanctuary from 6 to 7 p.m.
There will be a community cookout and games night on Friday, May 10. The church will provide hot dogs, hamburgers and the fixings. Bring a salad, favorite fixing, or dessert to share.
The church’s semi-annual "Sharing and Caring" free clothing giveaway will take place on May 17 and 20-22. Donations of good, clean used spring and summer clothing and household goods may be left in the church kitchen. No electronic equipment or children’s toys or furniture may be accepted.
