GUILFORD -- "Awe and Action" will be the theme on Sunday, May 5, at the 10 a.m. worship service at Guilford Community Church. As part of the National UCC 50 day Mission 4-1 Earth, Pastor Lise Sparrow is focusing for seven weeks on the days of creation. This Sunday the children will plant beans as a reminder of the third day of Creation in which God separated water from Earth and planted seed bearing plants. Music for the day will include traditional hymns about Spring and the anthems "Now is the Cool of the Day" and "Great Trees" under the direction of Peter Amidon.
Pastor Sparrow will reflect on the scripture and offer current scientific understanding of creation and its own awe-inspiring relationship to the book of Genesis. After church, the Mission Committee will offer opportunities for action in protection of the earth. The reception after church will celebrate the 100th birthday of beloved church member Bernice Dunbar.
Guilford Community Church is an Open and Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ and is fully handicapped accessible. An ASL interpreter and hearing assistance is provided.
