DUMMERSTON -- Worship at the Dummerston Congregational Church on Sunday, June 23, is at 9:30 a.m. A three-week series based on Anne LaMotte’s book, "Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers" will continue. This Sunday’s focus is on "Thanks." The scripture lessons are 1 Chronicles 16:34 and Psalm 34:1 and the sermon is "You breathe in gratitude, and you breathe it out too." Meister Eckhart, the German theologian said, "If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, ‘thank you,’ that would suffice."
The Children’s Story is "Just Say Thanks." Church school lessons this month focus on being kind to one another, at church, at home, at school, at play, and on the children’s Kenya Mission.
Next Saturday, June 29, is the annual strawberry supper at the Dummerston Church from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal features all-you-can-eat large old-fashioned shortcakes with local berries and real whipped cream. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Sign-ups for workers for the supper are in the church entrance. Volunteers are needed to work or donate for this major fundraiser; including cooks, servers, and clean-up help.
The church has begun its annual summer food drive for the Drop-In Center Food Pantry. The goal is 1,500 pounds of food staples, personal hygiene items and household goods by the end of August -- which is more than 100 pounds a week. Especially needed are single serving meals in pop-top cans and high protein foods like tuna fish and peanut butter.
The church is located at 1536 Middle Road, Dummerston Center. It is a Green Justice Congregation of The United Church of Christ. For more information about this energetic, faithful, friendly and mission-oriented church, contact Pastor Susanna Griefen, 802-257-0544, email@example.com.
