WEST BRATTLEBORO -- June 23 is the fifth Sunday after Pentecost at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 880 Western Ave. in West Brattleboro. The Rev. Joseph Amico’s sermon will be "The Woes of Jesus Doing Too Much in Your Home Town: People are Afraid!" based on Luke 8:26-39. Organist George Soulos will share a prelude of "La Joyeuse" by Jean Philippe Rameau and a postlude of "Gigue in G Major" by J. S. Bach. He will play a piano offertory of "Prelude in C Sharp Minor" by Rachmaninoff. The congregational hymns this week are "From All That Dwell Below the Skies," "I’m So Glad, Jesus Lifted Me," and "There Is a Balm in Gilead." Guitarist Jeff Brewer will play gathering music.

Sunday worship at First Congregational Church is at 10 a.m. During the worship hour, there is Sunday school for pre-school through grade 6 and childcare for younger children. Following worship there is a lemonade hour. For those with disabilities, there is a ramp leading to the Fireplace Room level, as well as large-print hymnals and bulletins. Ongoing weekly events include the Prayer Fellowship at 8:30 a.m. Sunday mornings and the Handicraft group on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. (floating location for the summer, call church for information).
