BRATTLEBORO -- A public program titled "Taking Refuge: A Day of Chanting and Meditation" is set for Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Vermont Insight Meditation Center.
Claire Stanley, the center’s co-founder and guiding teacher, will explore the traditional Buddhist refuges of the Buddha (the innate capacity for freedom), Dharma (the teachings that lead to freedom), and Sangha (spiritual friends and predecessors), as well as present moment awareness, kindness and compassion.
The program, open to beginners and experienced students, will include instructions and practice of sitting and walking meditation (chairs and cushions provided) and talks and discussion.
The program will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Solar Hill Neighbors’ Hall on 229 Western Ave. in Brattleboro. The registration fee is $15 with an additional donation suggested to thank the teacher. Participants should bring their own lunch, with tea provided.
