BRATTLEBORO -- Allen Vander Meulen III of Lincoln, Mass., will be guest preacher at 10 a.m. worship Sunday, Aug. 18, at Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro. His sermon is titled "A Mite in the Emptiness," based on the text from Luke 12:49-56. Vander Meulen graduated in May 2013 from Andover Newton Theological School while also completing his second year as a student minister at Memorial Congregational Church in Sudbury, Mass. Following a 25-year career as a software developer in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, he returned to his native New England in 2006 and is pursuing a second career in the Ministry.
The special offering for August supports the Vermont AIDs Project of Southern Vermont and Post Oil Solutions. Lemonade on the lawn will follow the service and all are welcome.
The public is also invited to the second in a series of three concerts by the Wistaria Chamber Music at 3 p.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary. Admission is free, but any donations will benefit the Brattleboro Centre for Children, a mission of Centre Church. The third concert will be presented on Sunday, Aug. 25.
On Sunday, Aug. 25, the third and last union service of the summer will be held at 10 a.m. at First Congregational Church in West Brattleboro. Centre Church is invited to attend. The Rev. Joseph Amico will be preaching.
