NEWFANE -- The First Congregational Church of Newfane will hold its regular worship service on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Robert Hamm will speak on "Sabbath Keeping" with scripture from the Gospel of Luke, chapter 13, verses 10-17. Congregational hymns are "Come, Let Us Praise the Lord," "Strong Gentle Children," and "Savior, Again to Your Dear Name."
Special music will be provided by Dot Chabot and Nissa Petrak who will sing "The Old Rugged Cross" by George Bennard. The prelude "Brethren, We Have Met to Worship" by Ritter/Moore and the postlude "Immortal, Invisible" by Edward Brougton will be played by organist/music director Martha LaMoria.
Next Sunday the sacrament of Holy Communion will be observed. Guest organist will be Peter LaMoria of Providence, R.I.
Though there is no formal Sunday School or childcare during August, children are always welcome in the worship service. Willing surrogate grandparents are plentiful for sharing children. A large box of children’s activities can be used and is located in the back of the sanctuary.
Choir rehearsals will begin on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 6:30 p.m. and will be held each Thursday at that time going forward. The handbells will meet on Thursday, Sept. 12, and each Thursday thereafter at 5 p.m. New singers and ringers are most welcome.
Events for the upcoming week include Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Sew What’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; Men’s Coffee at 10 a.m. on Thursday. For further information, visit www.newfanechurch.org or call 802-365-4079.
