BRATTLEBORO -- Now that September is on our doorstep, many plans are emerging at Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro. The Rev. Carra McFadden has returned from her mission trip to an orphanage in Kenya and will be leading worship at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1. Her sermon on Sunday will be "Sitting at the Little Kids’ Table." The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated.
Fellowship Hour will follow and all are invited. Special offerings for September will benefit the Brattleboro Area Drop-In Center and the Brattleboro Area Affordable Housing.
Many groups will resume meeting weekly, including the Prayer Shawl Ministry at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the parlor, the Bible Study group at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gisela Robeck’s home, the Woman Spirit group at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, and the Chancel Choir starting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12. Christian Huebner is Director of Music and choir leader.
Kidz Club registration will take place Sept. 15 following worship, and children will participate in the Communion service on the first Sunday of each month, with separate meetings focusing on the theme "Seasons of the Spirit" curriculum this year. September’s theme is "God’s Green Earth."
Michael Mario is Director of Christian Education. Jon Potter continues to serve as Council Chairman and he has announced a church retreat Saturday, Sept. 28, at Hallelujah Farm in Chesterfield, N.H.
The monthly "Moment for Peace" will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6. Marie Procter, secretary of the local Baha’i Community, will lead the meditation. Also at 5:30 p.m. Eric Strickland, local chess champion, will challenge 20 tables at a fee for students and separately for adults, as a fundraiser.
