NEWFANE -- Reception of new members will take place during the morning worship service at the First Congregational Church of Newfane on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Robert Hamm’s sermon is titled "Trust, Generosity and Joy."
The scripture reading is from Luke 16:19-31, the story of a rich man and Lazarus. Hymns to be sung by the congregation are "How Great Thou Art," "My Lord, What a Morning" and "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing."
The choir will sing the anthem "A Welcome Place" by Raney/Williams. The prelude, a piano solo "Holy, Holy, Holy," and the organ postlude "O Jesus, King Most Wonderful" by Birchwood/Leavitt will be played by Martha LaMoria, organist/music director. Next Sunday, the sacrament of Holy Communion will be observed.
Upcoming events for the week include Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Sew What’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; Apple Pie Making for Heritage Festival at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday; Handbell rehearsal at 5 p.m. and choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The annual Heritage Festival will be held Oct. 12 and 13, Columbus Day Weekend. Posters and flyers are located throughout the area.
