DUMMERSTON -- Worship on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Dummerston Congregational Church begins at 9:30 a.m. This is World Communion Sunday, and all who seek to follow Jesus are welcome to share in this sacrament of grace. The Scripture lesson for the day is Matthew 28: 19-20, The Great Commission, and the Meditation is " To Be and Make Disciples;" considering how the mission to Kaiguchu, Kenya, and helping neighbors at home helps fulfill Christ’s command.
Heather and Ryan Golding will join the church on Sunday. Children will begin in worship and then make apple pies and hear a story. Music leadership will be provided by Franz Robert, organist. The Neighbors in Need Offering will be received. One-third goes to support work on behalf of Native Americans. Some money came back to Vermont this year in the form of grants to churches and agencies serving low-income Vermonters. Checks may be written to DCC and marked NIN.
Work continues Monday through Thursday making Apple Pies. Volunteers are half-way to 1,500 pies, working 9 a.m. to noon and 3 to 9 p.m. in shifts. The 3 to 6 p.m. time is appropriate for children and their parents and for others to learn how to roll pies. Friday, volunteers clean the church and Friday evening weigh and wrap cheese.
Sunday, Oct. 13, is the Apple Pie Festival with worship amid the pies at 9 a.m. and sales from 10 a.m. until sold out. Pies are sold whole and by the slice, cheese by the slice or block; coffee, cider, Adams doughnuts, hand-cranked ice cream, and aprons, pins, tiles, and "Behind the Pie" DVD’s are all for sale. Volunteers much appreciated.
Donations of small collectibles handwork, ornaments and jewelry for the Grandmother’s Attic Table at the Apple Pie Festival may be left in the church kitchen. Tickets are being sold for the raffle of a Hunter’s Star Quilt, donated to raise funds for the mission trip to Kenya. The drawing will be at the Apple Pie Festival.
The church is located at 1536 Middle Road, Dummerston Center. For more information contact Pastor Susanna Griefen at 802-257-0544 or email@example.com.
