NEWFANE -- The First Congregational Church of Newfane will celebrate the first Sunday of Christmas at the worship service at 10 a.m. on Dec. 29. The Rev. Dr. Chris Petrak will give the sermon entitled "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" with scripture from the Gospel of Luke, chapter 1, verses 38-56. The prelude "Blessed Assurance" by Knapp/Crosby/Kirshbaum will be sung by Christine Gray and Bill Berner. The postlude "A Trumpet Tune for Christmas" by Lani Smith will be played by organist/music director Martha LaMoria. Special offertory music from Handel’s "Messiah" will be offered by Dan Marx on the oboe, playing "Then Shall the Eyes of the Blind be Opened" and "He Shall Feed His Flock."
Events for the upcoming week include Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Overflow Shelter Meal on Friday, Jan. 3. On Sunday, Jan. 5, the Sacrament of the Lord’s Table will be celebrated with the Rev.
