NEWFANE -- The first Sunday after Epiphany will be observed at the First Congregational Church of Newfane at the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Jan. 12. The Rev. Ivy Merrill will return as guest pastor with a sermon titled "The Ministry of Presence" with scripture from the book of Job 2:11-13 and Philippians 2:1-4.

Congregational hymns are "Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven," "Precious Lord, Take My Hand," and "God of Our Life." The church choir will sing the offertory anthem "I Wonder as I Wander" by Niles/Hustad with the prelude "This Hallowed Place" by Stewart Landon and the postlude "Recessional" by Chester Nordman will be played by organist/music director Martha LaMoria.

Next Sunday, the Rev. Chris Petrak will be the guest pastor leading the service focused on Martin Luther King Weekend. The service will feature the singing of several spiritual songs by the congregation and the choir as well as the reading of "The Creation" by James Weldon Johnson.

The Mission of the Month for January is Andover Newton Theological Seminary.

Events for the upcoming week include Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Sew What’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; and Handbell rehearsal at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
