DUMMERSTON -- The Rev. Jim Thomas will be the guest preacher at the Dummerston Congregational Church on Sunday, Jan. 26. Rev. Thomas is the Associate Conference Minister for Stewardship, Church Vitality and Finance for the Vermont Conference, United Church of Christ. He is a dynamic preacher and the church is honored to have him come. On the Vermont UCC Conference staff for the past nine years, he has helped bring the conference budget into balance, and consults with local congregations on Stewardship, budgeting, vitality, growth, planned giving, strategic planning and more.
He recently ended an 11-year pastorate at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Randolph Center. He and his wife Lynn have been married for 32 years. They moved to Vermont in 1998, after he completed 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy Seabees.
Music leadership will be provided by Franz Robert, organist. The new church school chorus will sing, accompanied by Sam Farwell on the guitar. The Children’s Story will be given by Billie Slade, Church School Director. Children begin in worship and then go to the church school program. There will be Bible study for adults after worship on the scripture for Feb. 2, John 6: 1-15, Feeding the Multitudes.
Saturday night, Feb. 1, will be a Community Potluck and Games Night from 6 to 8. Hot dogs and fixings will be provided. All are invited to bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share and a favorite game or puzzle. All are welcome to this fun community event.
Non-perishable foods, toiletries, household item, blankets, tents and tarps for the Drop-In Center may be left in the church entry. On Feb. 2, the church will participate in "Souper Bowl" Sunday to raise funds and food for local soup kitchens. Bring low-sodium or favorite soups to donate and a pot-ready addition to our soup pot for soup at coffee hour. The church served the meal at the Overflow Shelter on Jan. 21.
Worship is at 10 a.m. January through March. The church is located in Dummerston Center, 1536 Middle Road, Dummerston. Dummerston Congregational Church UCC is a Green Justice Congregation of The United Church of Christ.
Because the church is on a mountain, worship and programs are canceled when driving is treacherous. If worship is canceled, all events for that day are canceled. Check for cancellations at www.WTSA.net or www.WKVT.com, or contact the church to be added to a calling tree.
