NEWFANE -- The First Congregational Church of Newfane will meet for worship on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Robert Hamm will speak on "Seeing through the Lens of the Cross" with scripture reading from the book of Micah, chapter 6, verses 1-8 and the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 5, verses 1-12. The Sacrament of Communion will be observed.
Hymns to be sung by the congregation are "Sing Praise to God Above," "Eat This Bread and Never Hunger," and "Sent Forth by God’s Blessing." The choir will sing "One Bread, One Body" by J.B. Foley and G.A. Smith. Organist/music director Martha LaMoria will play the prelude "Meditation on ‘Green Hill’" by Robt. J. Hughes and Geo. C. Stebbins as well as the postlude "The Power and the Glory" by Chester Nordman.
Next Sunday, the Rev. James Thomas of the Vermont UCC will join Rev. Hamm in the service. The annual financial meeting of the church is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 9, at 11:15 a.m. immediately following the worship service. Note change in date and time.
Events for the upcoming week include Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Sew What’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; Deacons, Trustees and Church Council on Wednesday; and Hand Bell rehearsal at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Newfane Church is handicap accessible with both a chair lift and elevator and all are welcome. Sunday School for the children is at 10:15 a.m. with child care available.
