WEST BRATTLEBORO -- Feb. 9 is the Fifth Sunday after Epiphany at the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, 880 Western Ave. in West Brattleboro. Pastor Joseph Amico will share a sermon entitled "Jesus Teaches Us How to Be Great" based on Matthew 5:13-20.
Pianist and choir director Bill McKim will share a prelude of "Jesus is Mine" by J.Perkins/Frank and postlude of "Dialogue" by F. Couperin. The choir will share an anthem of "He Hideth My Soul" by Kirkpatrick and Carter. The congregational hymns this week are "Renew Your Church," "You Are Salt for the Earth, O People," and "We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations."
Sunday worship at First Congregational is at 10 a.m., preceded by 9 a.m. choir rehearsal. For those with disabilities, there is a ramp leading to the Fireplace Room level, as well as large-print hymnals and bulletins. For a ride to worship in February call Al at 603-363-4686.
The monthly pancake breakfast will be held Sunday, Feb. 9, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. On the menu will be pancakes, syrup, scrambled eggs, sausage, orange juice and other beverages. This is a free breakfast with no reservations necessary. All are welcome to come and enjoy the fellowship.
There is an on-going collection of canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and sauces, peanut butter, tuna fish, and cereals for the Drop-In Center’s Food Shelf.
Ongoing weekly events include the Prayer Fellowship at 8:30 a.m. on Sundays and the Handicraft group on Tuesdays at 1 p.
