BRATTLEBORO -- "Looks like we’re working out all of the kinks," said BUHS coach Kelly Markol after her team got their second win of the season versus Rutland.
In Saturday’s contest, the defending champs blew out the visiting Raiders, 12-1. To be fair, Rutland had only been outside one other time this year, before having to face the Colonels. Markol was still excited with the win.
"Hannah Wilson is really focused," said Markol about her starting pitcher. "She can put the ball right around the plate and hasn’t given up a walk in two games."
Wilson struck out five, gave up four hits, and only allowed the visitors one run in the second inning. The Colonels had three runs on the board by the end of the first, and another five after two.
"The team’s grown up a lot this year," noted Markol. "They will hit."
So far, so good.
Devin Millerick went 2-for-3, Jessica Ogden had two hits including a double, Siera Butler and Maddy Derosia went 2-for-4, Mckinlie Carpenter had a double, and Daisy Giroux and Casey Manning each got on a base in Saturday’s victory.
On Monday, the girls lost their first game of the season against Drury, 7-5. The matchup was tied 4-4 after seven, and went on for 11 innings.
Maddy Derosia led with two hits, Ogden knotted the score with a deep shot, and Giroux and Butler both had hits. Wilson pitched a complete game.
The 2-1 Colonels play at Mill River today at 4:30 p.m.
