BRATTLEBORO -- Kayla Wood, who is a freshman at Castleton State College, has a 4-4 record in the circle for the Spartans softball team.
The right-handed hurler has struck out 49, walked 24 and given up 35 hits in 42 innings of work. She currently has a 3.17 Earned Run Average.
Wood has three hits in 20 at-bats this season. She has crossed the plate twice and driven in four runs.
The 9-13 Spartans are on a three-game winning streak, including a 5-1 victory over Plymouth State on April 17 and a sweep of Johnson State in a twinbill on April 19.
Wood went four innings in Game 1 against Johnson State on Saturday. She allowed just two hits, walked two, fanned two, and gave up zero runs in that outing.
The Spartans will host a doubleheader versus Lyndon State College on April 26, with the games starting at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Wood, a 2013 Brattleboro Union High School graduate, pitched the Colonels to three state titles in her four-year varsity career. She had an impressive 13-1 postseason record and earned the Gatorade Vermont Softball Player of the Year as a senior.
