BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Union High School varsity boys tennis team was blanked by Rutland, 7-0, on Monday.
"There were a lot of deuce games...a lot of close games," said BUHS coach Justin Duncan. "We are a work in progress. We will get better and better."
For the Colonels, Tony Acevedo lost at No. 1 singles 6-2. 6-1; Lachlan Francis lost at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2; Jake Gartenstein lost at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0; Spencer Butter lost at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-0; and Mateo Vallejo lost at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-3.
Brattleboro’s Nick Ahlgren and Nick Hallock were defeated in No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-2. The Colonels forfeited the No. 2 doubles match.
BUHS (0-2) will compete at MAU on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Monadnock 9, Hinsdale 5
HINSDALE, N.H. -- The Pacers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a three-run triple by Kelsey Spindler, but were unable to hold on.
Monadnock, which had routed Hinsdale 11-1 in the season opener just a week earlier, pulled even at 5-5 in the fifth and scored two runs in each of the last two frames to win it.
Hinsdale pitcher Elise Atkins fanned three and gave up 15 hits. Megan Finnell played well behind the plate according to coach Terry Bonnette.
The 0-2 Pacers will next play on Monday.
Monadnock 14, Hinsdale 1
HINSDALE, N.H. -- The Pacers committed six errors in the first frame, leading to eight runs for the visitors.
Matt Boggio and Josh Webster each had one hit for the hosts.
Boggio and Hunter Brooks took turns on the hill for the 0-2 Pacers, who will host Pittsfield on Monday.
