BRATTLEBORO -- The 0-4 Brattleboro boys tennis team, which is coming off of a 7-0 loss to Burr and Burton on Friday, will be looking for its first win when it visits Woodstock today at 5 p.m.
Five area teams are playing host today, including the Bellows Falls and Hinsdale softball teams, Leland & Gray and Hinsdale baseball teams, and the BUHS girls tennis team.
Recent results are as follows:
Brattleboro 16, Spaulding 2
BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Union High School boys lacrosse team improved their record to 3-1 with a 16-2 rout of Spaulding on Saturday at Natowich Field.
The Colonels scored 14 of their 16 goals in the first and third quarters, taking an early lead and pulling away at the beginning of the second half. Brattleboro goalie Ian Cebek had a strong game in the net, finishing with 11 saves.
Sam Siegel racked up five goals and five assists to lead the winners offensively. Brennen Zolnoski added five goals and one assist, and Tanner Freeman had a hat trick and a pair of dimes.
The Colonels are back in action on Wednesday, playing the Hartford Hurricanes at Kilowatt Park in White River.
Burr and Burton 6,
MANCHESTER -- On Friday, the first doubles team of Jaida Henry and Aliza Racine got Brattleboro’s lone victory -- 6-2, 6-3.
"Again, the doubles team did well, led by Jaida Henry. She partnered up with Aliza Racine for the only win.
Maddy Pugnucco, Jordan Harmon, Stella Oh and Eliza Breed all cruised to victory for the Bulldogs in singles play. But in the third slot, Gabby Vella had to fight for a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Brattleboro’s Haley Marcil.
"At No. 3, Haley played the best tennis that I have seen her play. Haley particularly returned well against a strong serve by Gabby. If Haley can keep improving at this rate, it willl help the team tremendously," noted Weber.
At second doubles, Greta Larson and Danielle Looman were edged, 6-3, 6-3.
"Overall, it seems we are improving which is good. It’s still early in the season," stated the BUHS coach, whose team hosts Woodstock today. "I hope our first win is coming. That would be nice, but we are having so much fun. If we keep improving and have this much fun, what more can we ask for?"
