WESTMINSTER -- The Terriers’ Murphy Hicks got the winning strike out, and Morgan Finnell had a three-run double for the big blow, in the Terrier softball team’s 23-8 rout of BBA, their second win of the season.
Dakoda Carter had two RBIs and Chelsea Wilder got the bat on the ball three times, which included a huge double. Brooke James added an RBI single.
The 2-1 Terriers play at Hartford on Friday.
Brattleboro 4, Hartford 3
BRATTLEBORO -- The Colonels girls picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday against Hartford.
"Everyone really gives great effort every day," said BUHS coach Tom Weber, whose team goes to 1-5.
Brattleboro star Katie Tsukamoto clipped the Hurricanes’ Kali Covell 6-4, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, mate Taylor Bird beat Amanda Nelson 6-1, 6-0, and duo Danielle Looman and Gret Larson took a No. 2 doubles match over Summer Parkhurst and Pearl Macleod, 6-0, 6-2.
"It feels very good to get our first win," said Weber. "It was especially nice to have Tsukamoto clinch it with her win. That’s a big win for her and the team. She’s been working really hard on her game and it is showing. She has been playing very well lately. It’s so nice for her to be rewarded today for all her hard work.
Red Sox 7, Giants 1
BRATTLEBORO -- Pitching, defense and timely hitting was the formula the Red Sox used on Tuesday evening to defeat the Giants in a fast moving game at the South Main Street Little League Field.
Shea Buckley and Liam Styles each threw three nifty innings of one hit ball for the win and save respectively. Trinley Warren’s two-run triple followed by Jack Pattison’s double put the Sox ahead to stay in the fourth inning.
Alex Shriver, Aaron Petrie and their mates took over playing error free baseball as the Sox won going away. Styles led the offense with two knocks. Pattison and Petrie both opened their Little League careers’ with hits in their first game.
Jake Gilbeau and Gavin Sepalla had hits for the Giants.
