BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Union High School boys tennis team fell to Woodstock, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon.

"I'm seeing a lot of improvement," said BUHS coach Justin Duncan. "We have 10 players on our team for the first time. We are having a lot of fun."

Mateo Vallejo defeated Woodstock's Brendan Geiger 2-6, 7-6 (11-9), 10-6 for Brattleboro's lone singles victory. The BUHS doubles team of Jake Gartenstein-Spencer Butter took care of Grier Egan-Brian Kopf 6-4, 6-4.

In the other singles matches, Brattleboro's Gideon May lost 6-1, 6-3 in the top spot, Lachlan Francis fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, Spencer Loggia was defeated 6-4, 6-4, and Nick Hallock was downed 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles.

At second doubles, the BUHS duo of Chris Reneuf and Zeb Hathaway were on the wrong end of a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 decision.

On Tuesday, the Colonels swept Fair Haven in a pro set doubleheader. Spencer Butter, Mateo Vallejo, Nick Hallock, and the doubles tandem of Nick Ahlgren-Zeb Hathaway earned victories for the purple and white.

Brattleboro (2-10) will face Bellows Falls today.
