BRATTLEBORO -- Members of the Green Street School Run Club have been training hard for the Tulip Trot 5K Run/Walk and half-mile Sprout Run that will take place today.
The second annual event is a family-friendly run and fitness walk that starts and ends at Green Street School. The route is 3.1 miles of road and wooded trails that winds through neighborhood streets before entering scenic Retreat Trails at the base of Brattleboro’s famous ski jump. Younger children can enjoy a half-mile Lil Sprout Run around the school’s campus.
The race registration will take place today from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The half-mile Sprout Run will begin at 9:30 a.m. The 5K run/walk will start at 10 a.m.
The race will be held rain or shine. There will be a water stop along the course. Participants are asked not to bring dogs along with them.
After the race, there will be music, refreshments, a raffle and fun times. There will also be awards, with medals going to all school-age kids that enter the Sprout Run or 5K. The school restrooms will be available. And there is a playground on the premise for supervised children.
The first 50 registrants on race day will all get a free T-shirt.
The 5k event is sponsored by the Green Street School Parent Teacher Organization. The PTO is committed to promoting a healthy community while supporting wellness and fitness programs. The 5K is the culminating event to an eight-week long running and fitness program designed to promote healthy habits and encourage kids to get out, exercise and maintain a fun and healthy fitness routine. The event promises to be fun-filled while raising much needed funds to support the school’s fitness and enrichment programs.
All proceeds go directly to the GSS Winter Sports program, the GSS Run Club and other PTO sponsored enrichment programs. The Tulip Trot is organized by a dedicated group of volunteers and could not happen without the generous donations from community businesses and sponsors.
