BRATTLEBORO -- The No. 7 Brattleboro baseball team defeated No. 10 North Country, 9-1, in a Division 1 playdown game on Tuesday at Tenney Field.

"I thought we were able to take advantage of some of their mistakes," said coach Chris Groeger. "Overall, I think we played pretty well. I’m happy we got a win and we’ll move on."

Brattleboro pitcher Danny Richardson went the distance for the victory. Richardson fanned eight and walked three.

"I think we did really well," Richardson said. "Now, we’ll be working as hard as we ever worked. We’ll need to focus a little more on defense."

Kassidi Ramirez, Kevin Tao, Michael Rooney and Ryan McAuliffe all had two hits for the Colonels. Hunter Smith and Rob Heileman each hit safely.

The visiting Falcons stole a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Brattleboro scored two runs in the third inning and seven in the fourth.

Tao had a big hit in the third and fourth innings, as he drove in two runs each time.

The 11-6 Colonels will play the Mount Mansfield-CVU winner in Friday’s quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m.
