SAXTONS RIVER -- Head of School, Sean P. Brennan, is pleased to announce that Chris Davidson will take over as Vermont Academy’s Athletic Director on July 1, 2014. Outgoing Athletic Director, Mike Atkins, is moving to Keene High School where he will also be the AD. Davidson joined the Vermont Academy community in the fall of 2013 as the prep school’s varsity boys hockey coach and dean of residential life. Under Davidson’s guidance, the hockey team had its first winning season in eight years. His strong leadership skills and easygoing manner made an immediate impact on VA’s athletes, students, and faculty alike. When the athletic director position became open, he called it "his dream job" and interviewed for the role among several top, external candidates.
According to Brennan, "Chris is a natural leader and our number one choice for Athletic Director. He is a quality educator who has the health and welfare of our students and school in mind at all times. He will motivate our coaches and players to be the best they can be."
Davidson grew up in Clinton, N.Y., graduating from Clinton High School and taking a postgraduate year at Berkshire School. He attended St. Michael’s College where he played varsity hockey and captained the team to a national championship his senior year. Following graduation, he started coaching at Manhattanville College before making his way back to St. Michael’s as assistant coach for seven years and becoming the head coach in 2007.
Chris lives on campus with his wife, Aurelia, and their three children. The Davidsons enjoy being dorm parents, and Aurelia also coaches Field Hockey at Vermont Academy.
