BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star baseball team, which won the state title with a 6-4 decision over Franklin County on July 13 in Dummerston, finished with a 1-2 record in the New England Regional Tournament in Westfield, Mass.

The Brattleboro Stars were blanked by Maine, 2-0, in their opener on Friday. They then came from behind to beat New Hampshire, 5-4, on Saturday -- ending with Dan Petrie's three-run double in the seventh.

After being rained out on Sunday, Brattleboro fell to Connecticut, 10-0, in a losers bracket contest on Monday. Defensive miscues put the Vermont champs in an early hole. Tony Martinez had a hard single up the middle and Petrie legged out an infield single for Brattleboro.
