BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Union High School cheer team will begin practice on Monday, Aug. 25. All interested students entering grades 9-12 should meet on Natowich Field (underneath the scoreboard) at 3:30 p.m.
WHITINGHAM -- The Deerfield Valley plays host to some outstanding events throughout the course of each year including what has become one of the Valley's favorites -- The Hungry Lion Bike Tour presented by the Whitingham-Halifax Lions Club.
For the past two years, cyclists have taken on the challenging rides along beautiful back roads surrounded by fall foliage to raise funds to combat food insecurity in the Valley. This year, the ride will once again begin at Town Hill in Whitingham on Saturday, Sept. 27.
The Hungry Lion cycles four great routes: a 33-mile elevator ride, the 35-mile Rowe Zipster, the 55-mile Two River Ride, and the Big Wheel Flyer 75-miler. Each ride is designed to challenge both new and experienced cyclists. And this year, any cyclist can opt out of the final and most challenging climb -- for a quicker return to the festivities at tour's end.
This year, two rest stops will help keep riders fortified and at the end of the tour, participants can enjoy tunes from local band, World Way, at a celebration barbecue on beautiful Town Hill in Whitingham. There will be plenty of great prizes plus freebies for everyone.
