BRATTLEBORO -- The Bellows Falls boys cross country team, which placed third in the Division 3 state meet last season, will open up at Fall Mountain on Friday at 4 p.m.
The Terriers finished behind Stowe and Rice in the 2013 finale. Willie Moore paced Bellows Falls in that Division 3 state meet by placing 10th in 18:51. Rounding out the team’s top five were: Timothy Jones (19:51) in 21st, Jonah Bolotin (20:01) in 22nd, Jackson Purdy (21:02) in 38th, and Jacob Metcalfe (24:50) in 63rd position.
The Bellows Falls girls cross country team will also debut at Fall Mountain on Friday at 4 p.m. Lucy Lawlor finished 32nd overall in 25:20 to pace the Terriers in the Division 3 girls state meet a year ago.
Five other area varsity teams will also begin their season on Friday, including the Bellows Falls field hockey and boys soccer teams and all three Hinsdale teams -- girls soccer, boys soccer, cross country.
The Bellows Falls field hockey team, which will host Springfield in its season opener at 4 p.m., went 12-1-1 last season and earned the No. 1 seed in the Division 3 Tournament before losing to Stowe 2-1 in the championship game. Sarah Wells (26 goals), Mariah Barnett (15 goals) and Kya Coursen (15 assists) did the majority of the damage for the Terriers in 2013.
