BAYOU LA BATRE, ALA. >> Sharber Smith, a former past of West Brattleboro Baptist Church, is celebrating 50 years in the ministry.

In 1963, he was licensed to preach and was ordained in 1966. He has served as pastor in the following Alabama churches: Hoboken in Sweetwater, County Line in Marengo County, and Pine Grove in Bay Minette.

In the 1970s he pastored Indian Springs Baptist Church in Mobile and Orange Grove in Pascagoula, Miss., Piave Baptist in Piave, Miss., and West Brattleboro Baptist Church in Vermont.

From 1984 to 1994 he served as pastor of Shady Grove First Baptist Church in Heidleberg, Miss., and from 1994 to 2010 he served as pastor of Rosemont Baptist Church in Niceville, Fla. From 2010 to 2013 he served as a supply pastor. From 2013 to present, he is serving as pastor of San Souci Baptist Church in Coden, Ala.

Smith has been a visual evangelist for 42 years using Gospel illusions, ventriloquism and chalk talks to spread the Gospel message.

Smith attended Clarke Jr. College, William Carey College, New Orleans Seminary and received his doctorate from the Southern Baptist Center for Biblical Studies in Jacksonville, Fla.

Smith has been married to Sally Rideout Smith for 39 years and they have three children, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Sally wrote and published a book about their life and ministry called, "My Green Acres."

On Saturday, April 30, San Souci Baptist Church is having a celebration for Smith to honor his 50 years of ministry.
