SAXTONS RIVER -- At the Vermont Academy Spring Sports Banquet, four students from Dummerston were recognized.
Cam Wright, a freshman second baseman, earned an award for leading the school’s baseball team with a .380 average. His sister, Jordan, who is a senior shortstop, was named the MVP of the V.A. softball team.
Nate Greene was named the MVP of the junior varsity baseball team, while Jordan Wright and Magda Blakeson each received a letter jacket.
Little League
BRATTLEBORO -- Devin Millerick fanned eight to get the win and Adam Newton pitched in relief as the Pirates defeated the previously unbeaten Giants, 11-3.
After Millerick escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second, the Pirates broke the game wide open in the third thanks to nine walks. Carter Weeks made a fine defensive play to end the game, Kyle Derosia scored twice for the winners, and Cyr Solari chipped in with a clutch hit.
Brendan Gilbeau drove in two runs for the G-men, while Tony Martinez reached base three times. And Leif Bigelow was the team’s gold glover.
Ladies Day at the Range
GUILFORD -- Sportsmen Inc. of Guilford, which is a shooting, fishing and hunting club, will host the third annual Ladies Day at the Range at 2081 Creamery Road on Saturday, June 23, from 9-11:30 a.m.
The club will have volunteer coaching at the range to instruct ladies with proper firearm handling and shooting practices.
All ladies attending will be given free of charge a key and pin for the range for the remainder of the summer season. Participants are welcome to bring personal firearms and ammo to shoot. Bass Tournament
GUILFORD -- Sportsmen Inc. of Guilford will host its annual Spring Team Bass Fishing Tournament on Saturday, June 23, starting at 6 a.m. The event will launch from Norm’s Marina, off of Route 119, across from George’s Field. The entrance fee is $100 plus $10 launch fee. First place payout is $600 based on a 20-boat field. The proceeds this year will go toward camper scholarships and the annual Kid’s Day program.
