BRATTLEBORO -- The Athletics defeated the Reds, 3-2, in a pitcher’s duel Wednesday night, during the Little League playoffs.
For the A’s, pitcher Danny Petrie tossed 9K, and Matt Cutter closed. There was solid defense from Tyler Germain at shortstop, and Daniel Baldwin-Page at centerfield.
Petrie went 1-for-3 with a triple that scored the winning run. A’s teammate Jack Spanierman went 2-for-3 with a double and walk-off single (RBI on Petrie’s winning run).
Cutter started his inning with a hit and scored the tying run in bottom of the fifth. Dillon Cudworth went 1-for-2 in the same inning.
Reds pitcher, Ian Fulton-Black, pitched an unbelievable game, fanning 14 batters. On offense, Fulton-Black went 2-for-3 with two doubles, Tanner Bell had a single and scored two runs, and Johnny Greene hit safely.
The Athletics will play the Giants for the Brattleboro Little League Championship, this Saturday, June 23 at 3 p.m.
Tri-Staters win fifth golf
tourney in six years
BRETTON WOODS, N.H. -- The Vermont Tri-State Team came from a nine point deficit to win the Tri-State Tournament by a slim margin of 4.5 points over New Hampshire.
A strong Vermont C Division won a total of 37.5 points to New Hampshire’s 15 points to quickly overcome the deficit and put Vermont in the lead.
Vermont’s A and B Divisions were able to hold onto the lead for the victory. This
Vermont was led by Nancy Cole of Lake Morey, Maggie Weaver of Manchester, Phyllis Simon of Vermont National, and Cindy Paquet of Essex each winning all six possible points. Ellen Sheffer of Neshobe, Jen Shaw of Manchester, Patty McGrath of Green Mountain National, Kathy Allbright of Green Mountain National, and Stacie Eaton of Rutland each had 5.5 points, while Pam Shover and Cheryl Hoar of Burlington each added 5 points.
Edith Hiller of Rutland, Nancy Murphy of Proctor-Pittsford, Kathy Gaudreau of Lake Morey, and Holly Reynolds of Copley each had four points.
