BRATTLEBORO -- Sawyer Olson fired a one-hit shutout to lead the Post 5 Legion baseball team to a 9-0 rout of Woodstock/Windsor on Thursday at Tenney Field. Olson walked just one and struck out eight.
"He’s always a fighter. He always does really well. He came back on three days rest to pitch for us. He’s just a good kid," said Brattleboro coach Claude Gouin of Olson.
The winners racked up 11 hits. Soren Pelz-Walsh, Jamie Martell and Evan Parro all finished with two, while Elliott Gragen added a two-run single.
"We hit well. We had 11 hits. It was nice to see them hit the ball like that," added Gouin.
Post 5 (2-1) will take on Fair Haven in a doubleheader on Saturday at Castleton State College that will begin at noon.

BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Heat will host a 25-team softball tournament this weekend. The other teams entered are from Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York.
The games will be played on five different fields, including Sawyer Field, Fort Dummer, Sand Hill in Putney, the upper field at Memorial
The Brattleboro Heat 18u team has added players from the 2011 state champion Colonels, including Taylor Kerylow, Ashley Watson, Cassie Rawson and Kelsey Patterson. On Saturday, they will play games on Sawyer Field at 9:30 a.m., 12:20 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and on the lower field at Memorial Park at 7:30 p.m.
Brattleboro’s 16u team will play at Fort Dummer at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., and then on Sawyer Field at 5 p.m. The Heat’s 14u squad will play at the lower field at Memorial Park at 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m.

BERNARDSTON, Mass. -- In the Women’s Open Two-Ball event, Tracy Sloan and Liz Walker took low gross honors in the Hopyard Division while Whitney Robbins and Ginny Humphry did the same in the Hollow Division. Low net went to the duos of Deb Putnam-Emily Kay (Hopyard) and Carla Bernier-Donna Covey (Hollow).
