BENNINGTON -- The Brattleboro Little League All-Star baseball team opened District 2 Championship play Sunday against Bennington and won 18-12.

By the bottom of the opening inning, Brattleboro was up four runs. But Bennington charged back with 10 runs of their own, and four of those runs came from Dillon Babson’s grand slam in the bottom of the same frame. Bennington’s Dakota Bentley helped out with a double.

In the third, Brattleboro came back with another four runs scored, and held Bennington off until their fifth when the team scored their last two of the evening.

Tony Martinez, Dan Petrie, and Devin Millerick went to work for Brattleboro during the fifth inning, as each had a few hits. But Leif Bigelow and Ian Fulton-Black were the big batters for the team, with four hits apiece, allowing Brattleboro to string together five more runs.

Tanner Bell and Tyler Germain played perfect offense for Brattleboro, said the team’s coach, Jim Waters. Germain had the game-winning sacrifice fly.

Game 2 will be played Tuesday in Brattleboro at 6 p.m.
