STRATTON -- Here’s a look at event and activity highlights at Stratton Mountain’s Vermont Challenge Kick Off, which takes place Aug. 9-15. Visitors can also stop by The HUB in Stratton Village for an inside guide of events.

There is a free Soul Session Concert at Saturday Under the Stars Series, Aug. 11. Stratton’s free, summer-long family friendly concert series continues with Soul Session, a seven-piece band playing a variety of classic soul and gospel-infused pop topped with a powerhouse vocalist. Concert is from 6 to 9 p.m. in Stratton’s Main Base area, with barbecue and beverages available for purchase on site and a free Hula Hooping Zone from Mountain Hoops.

There will be live music on the Village Stage, Aug. 11 and 12. Local musicians rock the Village on Saturday from Noon to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every weekend. Saturday, catch the Bondville Boys, and Sunday, Ubuntu. Listen while browsing the Village sales or enjoying lunch on one of the restaurant patios.

The Heels to Paws 5K Fun Run and Dog Party begins Sunday, Aug. 12 at 10:30 a.m. Fun on two legs or four, this family and dog-friendly event benefits the Second Chance Animal Shelter. Registration is available on Active.com, or before the race in the Stratton Village for $20, and includes a t-shirt and dog bones. Stick around afterwards for a Stupid Pet Tricks contest (Noon at the Gondola) and

a Dog Party with water fun, frisbees, tennis balls, frozen treats, a hot dog dunking contest, paw paintings, and great beers and BBQ for the two-legged owners.

The Vermont Challenge Kick-off Party will begin Wednesday, Aug. 15. Southern Vermont’s only 4-day cycling tour, The Vermont Challenge, kicks off at Stratton. Live music from local bands, a sponsor expo in the Stratton Base area and bike tune-ups for the riders ensure a sweet start to the Challenge.

Other summer activities include:

Mountain Top Yoga class is taught every Saturday at 10:30 a.m. through Sept. 1 with a rotating instructor. Sign up through the Sports Center by calling 802-297-4230. Class fee of $15 for Sports Center members or $20 for non-members includes summit gondola ride.

Stratton’s Summit Gondola is now open on weekends, for a simple ride to the top or to start a short hike to the fire tower. Gondola open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 4 and 5 (Saturday and Sunday), and weekends and holidays all summer long.

Kayak Tours are now available seven days a week from First Run Ski Shop in the Stratton Village. Paddle around nearby Lowell Lake, enjoy the quiet waters and scout for local wildlife.

Monday Ladies’ Golf with tee-times begin at 5 p.m. every Monday evening through Sept. 3. Play is 9-hole scramble format. Sign up at least one day in advance by calling the Stratton Golf Club at 802-297-4118 or emailing Matt McPhillips at mmcphillips@intrawest.com.
