BENNINGTON -- Jackson Batchelder scored in overtime, with an assist from Jesse Brown, to give the Brattleboro boys soccer team a 3-2 victory over Arlington in the first round of the John James Tournament on Thursday evening.
The Colonels will now face Burr and Burton in the final on Saturday at 7 p.m., as the Bulldogs beat MAU 4-1 in Thursday’s other showdown.
"It’s always good to go to a John James final," said BUHS coach Paul Sather, whose team outshot Arlington 27-4.
Sam Kochinskas put away a pass by Conner Elliot-Knaggs to give Brattleboro a 1-0 lead. But the Eagles soared back to go ahead 2-1.
"It was another game where I felt like we were the better team. Even when we were down 2-1, I still felt confident," added Sather.
Elliot-Knaggs scored on a header with 15 minutes remaining to pull the Colonels even at 2-2. And then Brown set up Batchelder for the game-winner.
