MANCHESTER -- Bellows Falls’ Mariah Barnett scored two goals and Sarah Wells put one more away in the second half to give the Terrier ladies a 3-0 win against Burr and Burton in a Friday varsity field hockey game.

"We had a great time," said coach Bethany Coursen. "The players all really relied on each other and worked together this game."

Barnett’s goals were each scored in the first half within four minutes of the beginning of the game. After some hard passing and scrambling, Barnett tapped in the first goal, assisted by Wells. "A text book play," said the coach.

Wells scored the team’s final goal midway through the second half, off a corner play set up by Kya Coursen. Senior captain Lauren Rowell provided additional support from the midfield.

Bellows Falls remains undefeated at 3-0, and play Springfield on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

LUDLOW -- Liam Shaw twice broke away from the Green Mountain defense to score unassisted in the second half of a varsity boys soccer game, but the Chieftains went ahead early on and maintained the lead for a victory over Bellows Falls, Friday night at the annual Josh Cole Tournament.

"It was a positive learning experience," said Bellows Falls coach Robert Brooks. "Our players are young, but with some time..."

the Terriers scoreless through the break as the team struggled with their fullbacks.

"We finally pulled it together again," said Brooks, whose defense came back to life in the second half with the help of William McCarthy, who kept Green Mtn. away from Terriers keeper Zach Brooks, who had 21 saves.

"McCarthy (a junior) put it all out on the line, and made some nice sacrifices," said Brooks.
