RUTLAND -- The Raider’s Nick Boles threw for two scores and ran for another as an error-plagued Brattleboro fell to Rutland, 28-18, Friday night in a Division I football game at Alumni Field.

Boles had scoring strikes of eight and 40 yards to Josh Cody and ran in a score from a yard out as Rutland improved to 2-1 and dropped the Colonels to 0-3.

Nine Brattleboro penalties (six for holding), three sacks of quarterback Tyler Higley and two lost fumbles wasted a stellar passing night by Higley, who threw three touchdown passes and 270 yards on 18-of-22 passing. Higley was also sacked three times, including twice by defensive end Rocco Stoutes.

Higley had scoring passes of 11 and 38 yards to Josh LaValley and 61 yards to Noah Sieon, but the Colonels never possessed the lead.

Their opening drive ended on a fumble deep in Rutland territory but after Rutland took a 6-0 lead, the Colonels tied it on a Higley to LaValley connection.

Scott Crosby kicked a 23-yard field goal to give Rutland a 9-6 lead just before halftime and Rutland extended it to 22-6 before the Colonels got on the board again.

Their final score came with 46 seconds to play but the Raiders then recovered an onsides kick.

Brattleboro had 350 total yards, with Jake Gaboriault (46 yards) and Elliot Gragen (44) leading the ground game.

Rutland had 329 yards, with Mike Pileggi rushing for 54 yards and Tyler Guth for 34.
