ARLINGTON -- Devin Brady scored with two minutes remaining to give the Springfield boys soccer team a 1-0 victory over Twin Valley in the John Werner Tournament final on Friday.

It was the first loss of the season for the Wildcats (6-1), who had defeated Otter Valley 6-3 in Thursday’s semis. Springfield advanced with a 7-0 rout of the host Eagles.

"He (Brady) hit a low rocket near post," said Twin Valley coach Buddy Hayford. "Sam Molner dove to his right and got a piece of it, but it found the back of the net."

The teams went to the break in a scoreless tie. Hayford mentioned that Colin Lozito had a couple of chances over the last 40 minutes.

"It’s a tough loss, no question about it," said Hayford, whose team was presented the tourney’s Sportsmanship Award.

The Wildcats will play at Bellows Falls on Monday at 4 p.m.
