SPRINGFIELD -- Well, a team has finally done it.
Springfield has become the first field hockey team of the year to put a goal into the net against a virtually unstoppable Bellows Falls, though the Terriers still pulled off the win, 2-1, Friday night.
The Cosmos’ Maygen Daly claimed the goal after tapping one by the Terrier goalie at the 10-minute mark.
"Both teams came out a little flat," said BFUHS coach Bethany Coursen. "Things picked up in the second half for us."
The Terriers’ put away their first make 10 minutes after Daly’s, after captain Lauren Rowell crossed the ball into the circle and dished it to teammate Avery Lowe for the tap in.
It was 1-1 at the break.
Bellows Falls’ final goal came eight minutes into the second half with some skilled passing by Cassidy Santorelli and Lowe, who gave it up to Anna Clark, for her first goal of the season.
A last minute scramble had the Terriers battling Springfield to the very end, as they tried to tie. "We kept them back," said Coursen.
With Sarah Wells out for the remainder of the season, the Terriers will have to try harder, noted Coursen.
Bellows Falls plays Monday at home versus Burr and Burton.
