TOWNSHEND -- Ashley Goddard was the hero on Thursday, as her goal with 2:20 remaining in the second overtime gave the Leland & Gray girls soccer team a 2-1 victory over Twin Valley.
"I tip my hat to her. She wanted it. She made a couple of nifty moves and let one go," said Twin Valley coach Chris Walling.
Goddard won the ball at midfield, carried it all the way to the 18 and unloaded the game-winner.
"It was a really good game. We passed and possessed the ball beautifully. We had so many opportunities," said Rebels coach Lucas Bates. "We’re definitely on a roll. I don’t want to jinx us, but that was our third win in a row."
After a scoreless first half, Brittany Bills put the Rebels ahead just after the break. Natalie Herrick buried the equalizer for the visitors, assisted by Jordan Niles.
"I was pleased with the effort. My girls came to play," added Walling, whose 4-5-1 Wildcats will play at Stratton on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The 5-5-1 Rebels will play at Arlington on Saturday.

WESTMINSTER -- After missing a penalty kick in the first half, Lydia Pedigo made amends in the third minute of overtime.
West Rutland controlled much of the play in the opening minutes, but the Terriers started to begin passing the ball. In the second half, the hosts applied more pressure but had to be aware of West Rutland’s counter.
The 6-4-1 Terriers will host Black River on Saturday.
