BRATTLEBORO -- The Terriers put up more points than any other Division 1 or 2 football team in Vermont in Week 8. They even outscored college powers Alabama, Oklahoma and Southern Cal on Saturday.

Zach Rawling ran for 231 yards and two touchdowns, while backfield mate Carson Fullam gained 203 yards and scored three times, to lead Bellows Falls to a 54-21 rout of Otter Valley.

Ed Rodriguez chipped in with two runs to paydirt for BF, which took a 39-14 lead to the break. Quarterback John Winslow hooked up with Brett Patterson for a pair of TD bombs to lead the 2-6 Otters.

The 7-1 Terriers, who will get a forfeit victory next week from Springfield, trail only undefeated Rice in the Division 2 standings.

In other games on Friday and Saturday: Brattleboro bested rival MAU 36-12, Essex edged South Burlington 9-7, Hartford held off Rutland 47-37, Middlebury mauled CVU 35-7, Rice won by forfeit, Fair Haven outscored U-32 40-32, Mount Mansfield sunk Spaulding 45-0, St. Johnsbury took care of Lyndon 20-6 in The Game, BFA-St. Albans beat Burlington 21-6, Colchester clocked Milton 40-0, and Burr and Burton knocked out North Country 46-16.

Hartford, which improved to 8-0 behind Johnathon Carlson’s 166 yards on the ground and four TD’s along with Josh Clafin’s 163 rushing yards, earned the top seed in Division 1 and will host No. 8 South Burlington (4-4) in the quarterfinals on Friday at 7 p.m.

other matchups, No. 2 BFA-St. Albans (7-1) will welcome No. 7 CVU (5-3), No. 6 Colchester (5-3) will visit No. 3 Essex (6-2), and No. 5 Middlebury (5-3) will play at No. 4 Rutland (5-3).

Rutland trailed Hartford 34-9 on Friday, before rattling off 20 consecutive points to make things interesting. Quaterback Nick Boles went 20-for-33 passing for the Raiders for 310 yards and four scoring strikes during that comeback bid.

But that might not have been enough to earn him player of the week honors. Burr and Burton’s Chris Redding reached the end zone four times, including a pair of receiving TD’s, a score on the ground and a kick return to the house.

And what about the three fumble recoveries by Jason Molina that helped the Colonels claim the Elwell Trophy on a muddy Natowich Field?

Brattleboro (3-5) will finish up at Mount Mansfield (3-5) on Saturday at 1 p.m. In the other Division 1 consolation games, both on Friday night at 7, Spaulding (1-7) will play at MAU (1-7) and St. Johnsbury (2-6) will visit Burlington (2-6).
