THETFORD -- Jamie Moore of Bellows Falls won the Division 3 cross country championship in 17:50 on Saturday at Thetford Academy. Runnerup Zach Chatot of Thetford was four seconds behind.
The Terriers (44 points) finished second to Stowe (29) in the team standings. Thetford (59), BFA-Fairfax (68) and Rice (69) rounded out the top five.
Also competing for Bellows Falls were: Willie Moore, 6th, 18:42; Collin Johnson, 10th, 19:03; Tim Jones, 34th, 20:30; Matt Chapin, 54th, 22:24; Jamie Matthews, 56th, 22:35; and Will Scarlett, 72nd, 24:03.
Lucy Lawlor and Chapin Reis represented the Terriers in the girls race. Lawlor took 26th in 24:59 and Reis wound up 32nd in 25:45.
In the Division 1 race, the Brattleboro boys placed 12th. Arturo Gutierrez (19:04) was the team’s top finisher in 49th. Spencer Olson finished 65th in 19::42, Ryan Gilligan was 72nd in 20:39, Jon Burdo took 82nd in 21:20 and Graham Glennon crossed the line in 85th in 21:40.
Luci Hauty ran a personal best time of 27:25 for the BUHS girls. Catie Yost (24:04), Aliza Racine (26:07) and Dana Alexa (29:46) also finished for the Colonels.
"The teams ran hard but their inexperience at a state meet showed as they were well off their top performances two weeks ago at the CVC Championship," said Brattleboro coach John Dimick.

WESTMINSTER -- The 8-1 Bellows Falls football team is seeded second in the Divison 2 playoffs. The Terriers
Milton is coming off of a 55-26 rout of North Country in its regular season finale. Brad Bombard ran for 136 yards, while Jonah Blatt added 127 rushing yards and four scores, to lead the Yellowjackets.
In Saturday’s other Division 2 semifinal, top-seeded Rice (9-0) will welcome No. 4 Burr and Burton (5-3) at 1 p.m.
The semifinal matchups for the other two divisions look like this: Division 1 -- No. 4 Middlebury at No. 1 Hartford and No. 3 Essex at No. 2 BFA-St. Albans, both Friday at 7 p.m. Division 3 -- No. 4 Mount Abraham at No. 1 Woodstock and No. 3 Mill River at No. 2 BFA-Fairfax, both Friday at 7 p.m.
Chipman honored
CASTLETON -- Bellows Falls graduate Kealy Chipman was named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week after leading her team to the conference semifinals over the weekend.
Chipman recorded a point in both the Spartans’ games last week, totaling two goals and one assist. In a non-conference loss to RPI she assisted on the team’s only goal and in the NAC quarterfinals against Thomas, she scored twice to help the team build a 4-1 halftime lead.
Chipman’s five points on the week gave her 59 for the season, breaking the previous Castleton single-season school record of 55 set back in 2008. She currently leads the NAC in points (59), goals (23) and assists (13).
Golf news
BRATTLEBORO -- Dick Noel, 74, birdied three of the last five holes on Saturday at the Brattleboro Country Club to better his age and shoot a 73. He teamed up with Dana Zelenakas and Sylvester Murphy to defeat another veteran threesome.
